An Under 25 Minute Stacking Kettlebell Workout! Intermediate Level

[ad_1]

Sub 25 Minute Stacking Kettlebell Workout on GiryaGirl.com

There’s always a few interesting moments in a stacking workout – the first is usually a false sense of security, or the quickly fleeting thought that you might have chosen a kettlebell that’s a little too light. Cherish these moments, because a few minutes (or for some, seconds) that same kettlebell may feel mysteriously waaay heavier.

Because I wanted to go straight though, and because recent Dan John articles have inspired me to think up more "one kettlebell workouts" I ended up doing the workout below with the kettlebell I would use for the RKC Snatch Test, the 14kg kettlebell – that is unless I hit another bogo sushi night with the neighbors then I might need to start using the 16kg. But with a stacking workout, when in doubt, go light!

Backyard Challenge! Using Everything in a Sequence

[ad_1]
Earlier today I was training someone with kettlebells and had also brought out a very cool pair of custom made paralettes from Ryan Pitts of Stronger Grip. They are excellent for l-sits as well as slightly raised push-ups (we even sometimes do push up walks up and down the two of them). Later I set up the slackline, then decided to get out the throwing knives and throwing stars, and then the Neuro-Grips, and, and… realized I had managed to drag out a whole bunch of stuff into the yard.  Before bringing everything back inside, I thought it might be fun to create a couple of non-stop sequences that used nearly everything in some way, and that kind of traveled from piece to piece.  So here we go!

I should also share the workout from earlier which was inspired by Zach Even-Esh’s awesome book, The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength and Conditioning. My new client is already extremely athletic, and the ideas in his book are great for the current situation. Especially since they really work on not just strength, but power.  I love working on power, but that’s a dicussion for another time. Short version: being able to generate power is super useful for all kinds of things in life.

Nutritionally Dense Salmon Cheese Dip / Fresh Veggie Stuffing

Low Carb High Fat Nutrient Rick Delicious Salmon Dip

After falling into a canned salmon wormhole the other night, I found a video describing a similar recipe that I wanted to adapt for simplicity. Must admit, I mixed up a batch and have been eating it basically all day with super thinly sliced seedless cucumber “chips” (I serve them with hummus too sometimes) cut with a mandolin. I’m also considering stuffing jalapeno and mini sweet peppers with this dip next time. It would also be great with celery sticks too.

The Neuro-Grips Ebook is LIVE, a Workout, and a Preview of Drone Racing in Oregon

[ad_1]

Jon Bruney's New eBook is OUT!

SO psyched that the ebook version of Jon Bruney’s new title, The Neuro-Grip Challenge is available! (Paperback is supposed to be ready in about six weeks.) The two images above are just a couple from many cool shots that will give you all kinds of interesting exercise ideas… you should see the stuff that Rob Miller is doing in the book, too! Nearly gravity defying!

You’ll also notice that along with the new info on the Neuro-Grip Challenge eBook page, there are new photos on the Neuro-Grips page too and some of those are crazy fun as well. What I like most about the book is that Jon Bruney drills down into very useful wrist strength and mobility drills that are useful for all skill levels.  Though the exercises in the book get super difficult, they also start from the very beginning, something I’ve always loved about the approach in Convict Conditioning.

So, in honor of the ebook release, here’s an intermediate/advanced kettlebell workout that includes a little bit of Neuro-Grip time! Below the workout is a video showing another fun but pretty difficult Neuro-Grip drill that shows you don’t just have to do push-ups (which you may have gathered from the photos at the beginning of this post).

Doing 500 Kettlebell Swings & the Red Delta Project Podcast

[ad_1]

First off, it’s always a huge honor to be a guest on a podcast, but especially on Matt Schifferle’s Red Delta Project podcast yet again. It’s been a while since we’ve chatted, but we made up for lost time quickly. Check it out on iTunes: Exploring Freestyle Workouts w/ Adrienne Harvey – The Red Delta Project Podcast or his website.

fun with a 40kg Dragon Door Kettlebell
40kg of fun…

One of the things I mentioned in the podcast is that I’m still adjusting my training to balance with the occasional endurance challenges that come with the 3-5 hrs a week of Systema training that’s now in the mix. Matt was interested to hear about that, but also was curious about the workouts I’ve been doing here in the backyard which include giant rocks, throwing stars, throwing knives etc. along with the usual kettlebells and calisthenics.

Drone's Eye View and Breaking Down the Get-Up …Even if You Already Know It

[ad_1]

Recently I’ve had the privilege of adding a couple of local personal training clients to my schedule. Since moving here I haven’t had a chance to really start up a small group with a local gym yet, and will probably continue to hold off on that for a few more months.  Still finishing up the book after all (my fault since I keep adding things to it…it’s becoming a tome).

Adrienne Harvey of GiryaGirl.com captures kettlebell get-ups from a drone!

Workout Wednesday: Workout Videos, Two Kettlebell and Bodyweight Workouts & Skill Training For Active Rest

[ad_1]

Even with all the rain lately, I’ve managed to write (and do) quite a few really fun outdoor workouts

Handstand

While working out in a gym or indoors (the living room here is pretty much a gym at this point) is nice, especially in the summer, working outdoors is always a special treat, even in the 90-something degree NC summer. It cracks me up though, since moving here how everyone likes to remind me that "oh well it gets hot here too!"  Yeah well, kinda… but it’s been nothing like the past two brutal summers in Florida with the unrelenting humidity (heat AND humidity even at 3AM) and even more unrelenting tourists. Needless to say I can handle the low 90s… not even a problem. There’s some semblence of seasons here, I’m very very grateful.

I’ve always enjoyed trying and making up little non-stop sequences with kettlebells and calisthenics. A few years ago I used to teach and certify others in a program that very heavily focused on creating these types of sequences and part of that has always been in my training. Depending on the exercises chosen, this can be a real brain teaser too!

Live from downtown Durham, answers to Neuro-Grip questions! And Why I Haven't Been Doing Regular Pushups in Workouts

[ad_1]

Dragon Door Neuro-Grips!
A lot of very cool things are happening at the moment, which is great, but it has kept me from writing as much as I’d like to here!  So in order to make up for that this will be a full featured fun post, hopefully including topics you’re jazzed about as much as I am.
First off, I recently had an email inquiry: "what else can you do with Neuro-Grips besides push-ups?" I didn’t know this person’s fitness level so I provided a large variety of options. After writing them out, I was inspired to live stream some of them along with various tips from a really cool place in downtown Durham.
